TEACHERS
The following are interventions that a teacher may make in the classroom prior to making a referral:
Provide a place free from distractions.
Help to organize study space.
Break work into short segments.
Adjusted grading.
Present material on functioning level.
Allow special projects.
Use of taped texts.
Oral examinations.
Peer teaching, tutoring.
Drill with study partner.
Provide written copy of board work.
Allow student to highlight important information/directions.
Write comment beside grade to explain deficiency.
Provide extra time to write or copy.
Overteach to master material.
Show rather than tell.
Use same daily routine.
Give immediate feedback.
Be sure student knows what is expected of him/her.
Communicate your teaching with the special education teacher.
